Cultivating Leaders in Nutritional Science for Global Wellbeing

The Department of Health Nutrition at Harvard College UK is dedicated to addressing one of the most urgent global health challenges: the relationship between diet, health, and disease. Our programmes extend beyond basic nutritional guidance to explore the scientific, social, and behavioural factors that influence nutrition and public health outcomes. In a world facing the dual burden of malnutrition and obesity, alongside rising rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions, our mission is to prepare professionals equipped with evidence-based knowledge and applied skills in nutritional science.

The curriculum is grounded in core biomedical sciences, including biochemistry, human metabolism, and endocrinology, enabling students to understand the physiological roles of macro- and micronutrients at a cellular level. Building on this foundation, students study clinical nutrition, learning to assess nutritional status, design therapeutic dietary plans for specific medical conditions, and collaborate within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. A key focus of the department is public health and community nutrition, where students develop strategies for health promotion, design and evaluate community interventions, and contribute to policies that support healthier food environments.

Through international collaborations and Erasmus+ partnerships, students are exposed to comparative nutrition systems and global dietary practices. Opportunities include studying regional dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet and participating in research addressing food security and population health challenges.Graduates pursue careers as clinical dietitians in healthcare settings, public health nutritionists in governmental organisations, food industry consultants, researchers, and health advocates in non-governmental organisations, contributing to improved nutrition and global wellbeing.
