Optimising Movement, Function, and Quality of Life Through Evidence-Based Practice

The Department of Physiotherapy at Harvard College UK is committed to developing autonomous, reflective practitioners who restore and enhance movement in individuals affected by injury, illness, or disability. The programme is grounded in the principle that movement is fundamental to health and wellbeing. Students are equipped with the scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning skills, and practical expertise required to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory conditions across the lifespan.

The curriculum is built upon a strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, enabling a comprehensive understanding of human movement and function. Students progress to advanced physiotherapy practice, including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise prescription, electro-physical modalities, and respiratory care. A key focus throughout the programme is the development of advanced clinical reasoning, enabling graduates to critically evaluate evidence, design individualised treatment plans, and assess treatment outcomes effectively. Strong emphasis is also placed on communication, professionalism, patient education, and the promotion of self-management and healthy lifestyles.

Clinical education is a core component of the programme, with students undertaking supervised placements in a variety of settings, including NHS hospitals, private clinics, sports organisations, and community rehabilitation centres. London’s extensive healthcare network provides valuable opportunities for diverse clinical experience. The department’s engagement in research areas such as sports rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and neuroplasticity informs teaching and ensures alignment with current evidence-based practice.

Upon graduation, students are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), enabling careers in the NHS, private practice, professional sport, occupational health, and academic or research roles.
